Prelude to War
In the third book of the Tales of Narda series, Eathelon and his new companions journey
to Gorst into the lair of the enemy, in search of a Seeing Stone they believe the evil lord
possesses. The western allies build a navy, attempt to close off the Highland Gap and
prepare Andolan for war, as the people of Hamlan flee to the fortress city to escape the
onslaught in outlying lands. A Seeing Stone goes to Newcastle in secret while the one
who is to wield it fights for his life and an unexpected ally prepares for a dangerous sea
voyage to bring help to the young prince and his companions who are risking it all to
save Narda.
“I can’t breathe!” said Eathelon.
“Better that than an arrow in your back!” said the caat.
An arrow struck the tree above his head with a thwack!
“This way!” someone yelled.
Eathelon heard footfalls coming toward them, sloshing noisily in the snow. M.C. slotted
one eye halfway open to look, as two eastern soldiers ran past so intent on escape that
they failed to notice the caat’s less than perfect camouflage.
Another arrow whistled, followed by another cry, then silence. Eathelon heard footfalls
grow near, then halt. “We are discovered!” he whispered..
